In 2016 my friend and colleague, the American lettering designer, Michael Clark, suggested I have a go at developing my copperplate style by exploring some variations. After much experimentation, I came up with the three styles featured in this manual. At first, they just appeared in handout sheets created for the copperplate variations workshops I teach, but then I decided to write this manual which I hope will encourage people to experiment with the pointed pen.

I have a unique style: I do a style of copperplate that most people don't practice. The variations styles in the Copperplate Variations book were designed by me and are therefore, unique.
